Sherlock Fan Lit Fest

Katharsis was created as a forum which could bring together those who believed in the magic of words—as readers and writers of all kinds!

If you passionate about reading, if you love writing and if you believe in the transformative alchemy of words, this is the place for you!

We propose to curate a series of immersive experiences around specific genres so that lovers of books can find themselves in a space with others like them and share the joy of a community that loves the same things!!

We plan to bring together readers as well as writers of a specific genre, to engage with each other and understand as well as appreciate what makes the other side tick. These will be informal but well planned events where you can enjoy dialogues, discussions, debates, meta-analysis, and maybe even some specially crafted thematic meals!

The Game is On!

We launched Katharsis with the most popular literary figure in the English language—Sherlock Holmes!

We discussed the original inspiration for Sherlock, and shared information about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and hs life and works.

Following that we had a wonderful sharing from Dr. Mukund Jagannathan, an ardent fan of the Conan Doyle’s works who shared some of his thoughts on the various cases and deductions.

Dr Jagannathan is a plastic surgeon at a leading hospital in Mumbai and a genius Sherlockian!

Then it was quiz time for all, because Brainy is the new Sexy!

We had the following teams at the tables: Jeremy, Mycroft, Irene, Sherlock, Moriarty and Lestrade. After three rounds and one Master round, we had a clear winner!

Mr. Sudarshan Shidore was crowned the Quiz Master. Dr Jagannathan helped out with some amazing questions when a tie breaker was needed.

During the quiz we helped ourselves to some Moriar-tea and Baker Street cupcakes.

Next was a presentation by Jay Ganguly, Editor of the Sherlock Holmes Society of India’s journal.

She gave us some history of the funding of SHSI and the various other Sherlock societies globally.  We learnt some interesting facts about the mentions of India in the original stories canon and then took us through a fun quiz to determine our level of Holmes Mania!
